This conference is about alternatives to the traditional relational database engines and will cover (I hope!) several different alternatives. Q Why do we need alternatives? A Because the traditional relational databases are poor (or are perceived to be poor) in a number of significant areas. If that is truly why we believe that we need alternatives, then one acceptable alternative to a traditional database relational database engine is a non-traditional relational database that addresses those shortcomings. This is the approach that has been taken with the development of VoltDB. This talk will outline the pros and cons of this particular solution.
