• Open Rubrics and the Semantic Web

  Much attention has been paid in recent years to the use of rubrics in fostering a more level, fair and scalable educational experience. While the complementary Semantic Web and Linked Data movements have created an environment supportive of the exchange of open sets of machine-readable data, the state of the art of digital representation of rubrics as sharable documents has not advanced. Rubrics shared on the Web are generally static non-semantic documents (DOC, PDF) or in the proprietary formats of Learning Management Systems (LMS).

  In this talk we propose a data model for digital rubrics built upon open Semantic Web Standards from the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) - OWL and RDF - and show how these rubrics can be integrated into an open educational enterprise using open source tools.
