Contributing to Local Great Lakes and Water Protection

A session at Brand Yourself, Build Buffalo

Thursday 2nd June, 2011

1:50am to 2:30am (EST)

In Buffalo-Niagara, we live on the shores of a treasure. The Great Lakes hold 90% of North America’s surface fresh water — A full 25% of the world’s supply. Buffalo Niagara RIVERKEEPER’s mission is to protect and restore our corner of the Great Lakes. RIVERKEEPER is doing a tremendous amount of work all focused on partnering with government and community members to protect and restore the quality and quantity of water and connect people to our water. Every day we are working to make our water drinkable, swimmable and fishable.

Buffalo Niagara RIVERKEEPER is dedicated to helping our community understand how important our water is to our future and the risk it faces. We empower people to take action in real and lasting ways that make a difference in the quality of our waterways. This support and backing of our mission allows us to execute solutions for the three incredibly complex problems that have been plaguing our community for generations: legacy industrial pollution (both on land and underwater), sewer pollution and vast habitat destruction. We are not asking government to do this but trying to give power to the community to take action.

Drinkable. Swimmable. Fishable. That’s our vision and your support of this mission of protecting, restoring and connecting will have profound long-term effects on our water and on our community.
