JumpIn: Migrating from MySQL to SQL Server

A session at CakeFest 2011

The CakePHP core team was recently invited by Microsoft to participate in JumpIn Camp; A Microsoft invite-only camp that strives to provide the support and assistance to have support for Microsoft products in open source software. The team used this invaluable opportunity to work co-operatively with Microsoft engineers and program managers to build out support for SQL Server 2008, Denali and Azure for CakePHP 2.0.

The process was relatively simple to create basic support for SQL Server, and we were able to use the additional time we had to ensure migation was seamless using tools such as SSMA (SQL Server Migration Assistant).

This talk will detail the process required and tools available to migrate your application from MySQL to SQL Server, and some of the cool features provided that make this simple and painless.
