Half way Interaction 11 in Boulder and Interaction 12 in Dublin we will screen the video registration of Richard Buchanan's opening keynote for Interaction 11.
In his keynote - the most inspiring session according to the attendees - Richard referes to several models: from the 'Triangle of Doom' - the balance between usefulness, usability, and desirability - , to his 'Four Orders of Design'.
He states that interaction design should not focus on the materials to design, but on the people being designing for. The purposes and desires of the end user are the materials of interaction design.
The presentation is littered with memorable quotes. He calls interaction designers 'pioneers of cultural exploration' and posited that supporting human dignity is the principle of interaction design.
