Mapping the world with Twitter – Behind the <canvas> of a HTML5 web application

A session at JSDay 2011

Wednesday 11th May, 2011

11:30am to 12:30pm (CET)

HTML5, canvas and SVG are hot topics right now, but when it comes to dealing with them every one should be ready to enter into a realm of challenging tasks: user interface design compromises, optimization, frame rate, memory and cpu usage to mention but a few.
A world of tweets (aworldoftweets.com) is a HTML5 based web application that gathers real-time data to show a map of tweets from around the globe. In this talk I will deep dive into the phases of its development with the aim of highlight findings, tips and tricks learnt during the process, with a special focus on Javascript coding techniques for canvas based applications.
