  • The Open Cloud

by Eric Day and James Turnbull

In this session you'll see how open source is the cutting edge of Cloud. I'll show you Open Stack: a collection of open source technologies to deliver a cloud operating system. OpenStack has developed two interrelated projects: OpenStack Compute and OpenStack Object Storage.

    • OpenStack Compute provisions and manages large groups of virtual private servers, and
    • OpenStack Object Storage creates redundant, scalable object storage.

    In this session I'll demonstrate:

    • The components of Open Stack Compute and Storage
    • Open Stack architecture and security, and
    • How to use it including a Puppet-driven demonstration of installing Open Stack, building a web tier cloud and installing an application during the session.

In conjunction with the session the tools, Puppet code and documentation used to create the cloud will be available under a GPLv2 license.

    At 3:45pm to 4:30pm, Wednesday 22nd June
