Large Scale Continuous Integration

A session at Scandinavian Agile Conference 2011

Continuous integration is one of the key practices in fast software development and an essential element in agile. Scaling continuous integration to work with larger number, for example dozens of distributed teams working on same software release is challenging. In this talk the challenges encountered in building, improving, migrating and deploying continuous integration system and benefits reaped from that are explored. Many of the lessons are valid also for smaller development environments. Areas to be discussed include both technical issues and deployment & ways of working issues. The talk will explore should CI environment be developed in an agile way and are there limitations on continuous integration in larger environments. Fast feedback time is essential – what are the ways to get faster. What were the benefits that systematic use of continuous integration brought over time.
