HTML 5 and the Mobile Web - Do you really need an app?

Smartphones are capable of amazing things and as you're no doubt sick of hearing, no matter what you need, "there's an app for that". But do you really need an app? Developers can feel constant pressure to build a killer app to compliment your website or service, but it's worth taking a step back and asking whether you need a set of native apps for all those smartphone flavours. Smartphone browsers are very powerful too, and it's amazing what you can do with a webpage, especially when combined with new HTML 5 capabilities.
