Mobile development for multiple platforms is a mess. Each of the major platform requires different languages, frameworks and development tools. While HTML5 is a real alternative for apps targeting multiple platforms, essential native functions like notifications, geolocation, camera or personal information access are unavailable. This is where PhoneGap jumps in and saves the day. The free open-source framework allows developers to use HTML5 and JS to develop with access to native APIs. Since it is available for Android, iOS, Windows Phone, BlackBerry and all other major players, compiling one app for all major platforms is possible. This session gives an introduction to development with PhoneGap, introducing usage of native APIs like the accelerometer, camera, geolocation or notifications with HTML5 apps. It will also show compiliation of one app for multiple platforms.
