Why should I care about startups on my campus?

A session at HighEdWeb 2012

  • Jesse Rodgers

Tuesday 9th October, 2012

8:30am to 9:15am (CST)

It seems like every campus is working on a way to develop entrepreneurs and have the next Facebook created there. From Harvard to the University of Illinois to the Stanford campus there are 'incubator' programs and promises from grad programs that they support entrepreneurs. Why should someone at HigherEdWeb care? Well because these programs are a window to a world of inbound marketing (social media that is measured, web sites done right, and thought leadership) and figuring out quickly how to build technology people will use. However, more importantly it is because non-academic programs like YCombinator or TechStars are diverting top talent from your grad programs and you really need to know why. This talk will go into how these things work and why higher ed needs to understand them.
