In this poster session I will share how The Division of Student Affairs at The University of Alabama has introduced new technology that has improved the hiring process of student workers as well as improved students’ interview skills. Assessment and Planning, The Career Center, and Web Development & Online Processes (WDP) have collaborated to create a digital rubric optimized for the iPad. With the introduction of this new process, students are evaluated on the many criteria that real world employers use during their hiring processes. Immediate feedback is available to students regarding how they can improve their chances in future on campus interviews as well as professional interviews. The goal of WDP is to provide useful data throughout the Division for departments to help improve the effectiveness of the many programs offered. Over time the data collected will shine light on what areas our students are not fairing so well in. This project has immediately returned favorable results for all those involved but most importantly the students. I will also share what opportunities on which we were able to capitalize and the stumbling blocks we overcame during this venture.
