Putting "Community" in a Community College Site

A session at HighEdWeb 2012

Tuesday 9th October, 2012

4:00pm to 5:30pm (CST)

In implementing a new site for Southwest Tech, a community college in southwest Wisconsin we are emphasizing the "community" aspect of the college. Southwest Tech has been suffering for years with a site that has limited options for interaction with many "communities" we find ourselves in or relating to. We have chosen to move from a site that made it difficult to find information to a consistent site architecture where information can be found easily. With the old site programs communicated to students and potential students more through Facebook than our website. Now, the new site uses social media to focus on pages within our site. Community College sites are not always clear: Even the TV Show Community knows this: Troy: I think I'm failing psychopharmacology. Britta: Why are you taking that? Troy: I thought it was a class about crazy farm animals. But we should strive to give users an experience that doesn't leave them guessing.
