The accelerometer and magnetometer

A session at iOS Sensors and External Hardware Masterclass

Monday 8th October, 2012

9:15am to 11:00am (GMT)

The iPhone’s accelerometer measures the linear acceleration of the device so that it can report its roll and pitch, but not its yaw. If you are dealing with a device that has a digital compass you can combine the accelerometer and magnetometer readings to have roll, pitch, and yaw measurements. During this session you'll be introduced to the these two sensors and we'll go ahead and build sample applications that use them.
