In this talk, Genevieve addresses one of the persistent stories in technology spheres: the idea that women are not the drivers of new technology. She argues that this erases the pivotal roles women have played to shepherd new technologies; electricity, domestic appliances, telephones and the internet into our lives and homes for more than a century. Genevieve draws on historical and contemporary data to complicate our understanding of women as technology users, and suggest that rather than laggards, women are in fact the bell weather of all new digital technologies.
