Building a Transaction Logs-based Protocol on Riak

Bump just released Flock, a new, stand-alone app desigined to help people share photos with their friends. In an effort to build on what we've learned over the past three years with Bump, we decided to build a multi-level transaction log-based system creating logs for each event a user joins and for the user themselves. We'll talk about some of the problems we faced deploying this entirely new stack on Riak--specifically focusing on issues with dependant operations (where one would use a transaction in an ACID database) and how we attempted to resolve them. We'll also showcase our (now) open-sourced Haskell object proxy, which we use for sibling resolutions and some application-level rpc-style calls
