You don’t have to be a designer to make a SharePoint site easy-to-use. There is a science behind ensuring a user thinks less about how to use a site and more time focusing on what is on the site. These techniques and principles are standard in the regular web design world and can be applied to SharePoint too.
This session breaks down the science of “easy-to-use” and demonstrate techniques to communicate requirements and what it takes to make your SharePoint site more intuitive to users. It is intended for the non-designer tasked with implementing an easy-to-use and widely adopted SharePoint site and covers:

SharePoint is a broad platform offering many different capabilities. It is frequently a challenge for clients or even our own management to understand the roles involved in designing and implementing a proper solution, assessing the impact on IT teams to maintain it and most importantly helping the users adjust and accept the new tool in their lives.
In this talk we’ll break down the SharePoint Superman into manageable roles that can be filled by one or more people, including what is a SharePoint architect. We’ll assess the maintenance impact to IT teams, including the division of the SharePoint farm administration roles. Most importantly we’ll look at how the implementation of SharePoint 2010 can impact the organization and its users.

Scripting languages have always been a part of the Administrator’s toolkit. Unfortunately, most OSITAs (Old School IT Admins) were averse to learning or even leveraging scripting in their duties. Come to this session to lose your fear (BY PARTICIPATING) and see how easy this scripting language is and demonstrate the most common tasks in the life of a SharePoint Administrator.

In New York, something like 70 percent or more organizations use SharePoint for some kind of intranet related business purpose. However, far fewer use SharePoint for public facing web sites and fewer still use SharePoint for that famous in-between state - the "extranet'. That's a shame. During this session, you'll learn about some of SharePoint's lesser know but still quite powerful features that support these scenarios, including: - Strong branding for internet sites
You should leave this session with a greater appreciation of SharePoint's ability to support non-employee use and a clear idea of what it would take to get there.
Visual Studio 2010, when installed in the same environment as SharePoint 2010, provides a broad set of project type templates for creating SharePoint assets (sites, site elements, etc.), more so than SharePoint 2007. Upon creation of a SharePoint Project, Visual Studio 2010 automatically creates the necessary Feature and Package nodes, facilitating the creation of a SharePoint Feature and Solution Package. Today's discussion (and walkthrough) will show a few different scenarios of creating a SharePoint 2010 Project containing some site elements, and how Visual Studio 2010 has made Feature and Package creation a much simpler process.
Three Lessons Learned from Attending this Session:
New/enhancements in VS2010, new project types for VS2010/SP2010, simplistic deployment of customized assets for a SP2010 application

If you’re new to SharePoint and want to know what you can do with lists and libraries, then this is the session for you! We’ll explain document libraries and lists, and look at what you get out of the box. We’ll look at how to add custom columns, alerts, views and even explore the workflows that are baked in with the different versions of SharePoint. No tools needed here, just your everyday web browser.
This session will cover the ins and outs of SPMetal, a tool which ships with SharePoint 2010. SPMetal allows developers compile-time access to SharePoint lists and content types. This allows for type-safe access to columns/fields on a SharePoint site. Additionally, developers can write LINQ queries against these lists using SPMetal which speeds up query writing tremendously for developers. We will additionally cover adding support for complex column types (Managed Metadata, Publishing HTML, etc) which aren’t support by SPMetal out of the box. Lastly we will also touch upon performance considerations and other best practices when coding with SPMetal.

Let’s explore cloudbursting (combining a cloud-based & on-premise solution) with a scenario integrating SharePoint 2010 with Windows Azure and Google Maps using the Business Connectivity Services and mobile devices.
Bank of America has the largest corporate SharePoint implementation with over 24,000 SharePoint sites and over 200,000 users. One of the reasons for our high rate of user adoption is our internal SPUG. We hold three weekly meetings (Basic, Advanced, and Designer) run by volunteer power users. Our SPUG hosts a Q&A discussion forum, Knowledge base, and web part library and provides mentoring, tips and tricks, and best practices.
This LT session will cover how we created a successful SPUG and suggestions for starting and running your own internal SPUG.

SPSiteDataQuery is a powerful method of rolling data from child sites up the site hierarchy. This is a great tool for executive dashboard type systems, where many homogeneous child sites with symmetric data types must be combined and aggregated into a high-level display. Using familiar CAML query concepts, wide ranging data can be fetched and brought into a single tabular display. SPSiteDataQuery + LINQ = You are a champion and here is your crown!
Microsoft’s Performance Monitor application makes a wealth of information about the components on the servers. In order to properly diagnose and troubleshoot SharePoint performance problems, SharePoint Admin often depends on a performance monitor (perfmon) log during problem period. Choosing or picking different sets of Performance Counters for SharePoint Servers are sometime cucumbersome and time comsuming. Also few client do not allow to log-in to Production Servers directly. Using Powershell we can achive all the possible scenario and can make re-usable script.
In the live demo will try to show how to make best use of PS and other free tool to make readable report from Perf Mon Counters.
