  • Help Wanted: Hunting High & Low for Digital Talent

by Ben Fisher, Jami Hoffman, Lionel Carreon, Winston Binch and Barbara Tejada

Everyone is looking for digital talent these days, from established tech firms, startups, advertising agencies to the biggest corporations. The ever-broadening makeup of the attendees of SXSW is a huge indicator of this. There’s a bigger crossover of technology and marketing than ever before. In many ways, we are all looking for the same talent. And it’s not just developers. We look for highly conceptual people who can come up with amazing ideas and inventions. As a result, creative technologists, digital strategists, designers and writers are in high demand. In this panel, recruiters from a variety of firms will discuss who they look for and how they find that talent. How can we improve our pipeline and process? Where are there new places to look? How can the talent make themselves easy to find? Are schools keeping up with the demand? This panel will be for companies and jobseekers alike, a look behind the curtain of how the matchmaking of employer and employee happens.

Join representatives from leading anime, gaming, and digital media companies as they gather to discuss anime’s impact on pop-culture, and find out how anime impacts your life in ways you might not even suspect. From your mobile device to the movie theater, in your video games and on your DVR, anime is everywhere. It’s more than cartoons – It’s a thriving, influential culture.

  • Does the 49th parallel exist in social media?

by Keith McArthur, Richard Binhammer, David Jones, Dave Fleet and Julie Tyios

Hot, Cold. Up, Down. Canada, US…. are we really poles apart? When it comes to the online space do Canadians differ from the rest of the world?

When it comes to time spent online, Canucks spend more hours surfing by almost twice the worldwide average. Added to that, a recent Comscore report indicates that 1 in 5 Canadians own a smartphone, putting us just above US penetration levels. This panel will discuss the behavioral variances that drive social media strategy for companies marketing in Canada. Regulation, trust, privacy and technological contrasts - or similarities - will be discussed in terms of how these operating differences impact the Canadian market.

We are pleased to have Richard Binhammer (Dell), Dave Fleet (Edelman Digital), and David Jones (Proximity) and Julie Tyios (JugnooMe) on this panel, which will be moderated by Keith McArthur (Rogers Communications). Is there really a “border” online? Join us to find out!
