  • Meat is Might: Epic Meal Time Rules the Web

by David Heuff, Josh Elkin, Ameer Atari, Jonny Goldmaker and Harley Morenstein

How do a group of friends go from sitting down for a meal together to creating an EPIC MEAL TIME together?

The first ever Epic Meal Time video involved the creation (and subsequent demolition) of a "fast-food pizza" and received 100,000 views. The second, Angry French Canadian: The Greasiest Sandwich in Canada, saw views increase exponentially to 500,000. Epic Meal Time episodes have garnered 15 millions total views - 2 million per episode - and have appeared at Comic Con, on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, joined leading Independent Television Network Revision3 and are continuously increasing both their audience and footprint.

What are the key factors to their initial success and continued expansion throughout the digital and entertainment sphere? What's the process of putting together an Epic Meal Time video from concept to execution? Join the Epic Meal Time team in a discussion of how an online YouTube cooking show has succeeded in a crowded space at a level where many have not.

  • What the Internet Finds Funny: Creating & Covering Humor Online

by Sam Reich, Christine Friar, Adam Frucci, Doree Shafrir and Jesse David Fox

Web comedy is more than YouTubes of stand-up sets and GIFs of sleepy cats; the popularity of sites writing about comedy, aggregating web humor and putting a satirical spin on breaking news is skyrocketing. Doree Shafrir (Executive Editor, Buzzfeed), Adam Frucci (Editor, Splitsider), Sam Reich (President of Original Content, CollegeHumor), Christine Friar (Associate Editor, Huffington Post Comedy) and Jesse David Fox (Freelance Writer/New York Magazine's Vulture/Splitsider) talk about writing funny things, writing seriously about funny things, writing humorously about serious things and how comedy's increasingly shaping the growth of web media.

  • The Not So Allied Forces of Social TV Comedy

by Jon Burkhart and Will Saunders

The US and UK have joined forces enough over the years, so with tweet-powered comedy, we Brits are going it alone. Sorry Team CoCo and Fallon. This talk’s all about what’s happening in the Mother Country when Twitter and Facebook fuel the funny on the telly. Why listen to us? From Monty Python to The Office, the BBC produces more comedy than any broadcaster in the world. But the web changed everything. What happens when Auntie Beeb focuses on developing new comedy talent from the web up? Or when it teams with social TV consultants like Urgent Genius to make immersive second-screen experiences? The keys to the next generation of Britcom are in the hands of TV viewers tapping on iPads. But what kind of TV comedy will that create? Hecklers, come one, come all. Sit in the front row and let us pick on you as we tell you about some experiments we've been doing with live comedy and social media including a live Twitter-powered experiment just for SXSW.

What can podcasts offer comics that no other medium is able to? How are comedians shaping the evolution of digital broadcasting? Does a comedy-focused podcast need to be “funny”? We’ve got some of the top names in podcasting on hand to talk about the ways hosting and promoting their shows has changed the way they approach comedy — and the way we experience it.

  • SXSW Comedy: Upright Citizens Brigade Presents The Chris Gethard Show

The Chris Gethard Show is billed as "the most bizarre and often saddest talk show in New York City." It ran for over two years to sold out houses at the UCB Theater in New York, and now broadcasts live every Wednesday night on Manhattan's public access television station. It has a reputation for being the home of some strange stunts - from using Twitter to convince Sean "Diddy" Combs to appear on the show, to flying a depressed Ohio teenager to New York City to give him the best night of his life, to staging an unplanned cross country tour where people could dictate the route via social media, to shows where people have been electrocuted, have been shot with paintballs, have pissed their pants on purpose, have been beaten by kickboxers, and many, many, more, this show thinks outside the box and knows how to go for it. They're coming to Austin ready to put on a very interactive, very high risk, very balls to the wall show. Featuring Chris Gethard, Shannon O'Neill, the Human Fish, music by the LLC, and much, much more!
