Sunday 11th March, 2012
9:30am to 10:30am
This is a “come as you are” session meant to accommodate mixed levels of experience with minimal need for special equipment or previous experience (read: no mats or yoga clothing required.) Special emphasis is placed on postures and practices to help those of us that sit at desks and use computers regularly. Much of what you learn here will help you build a home/work practice that is therapeutic and adjustable to your needs. Yoga was created thousands of years ago as a way to clear the mind in preparation for enlightenment. What better way to prepare for for the busy days of networking, information and fun at SXSW? See you there!
Founder / Teacher, Compass Yoga
I am a yoga teacher and yoga therapist who learns from my students every day, a product developer who is equally inspired by new technology and ancient wisdom, and a writer who believes that creativity and determination is the most powerful duo on Earth. My writing focuses on curating a creative and original life, drawing inspiration from a variety of topics including the arts, books, travel, new technology, business, and New York City, a wondrous and turbulent place I’m proud to call home. My two entrepreneurial ventures have made it possible more me to meet a plethora of interesting characters: In 2010, I founded Compass Yoga, a NYC-based nonprofit focused on improving the health of all people by teaching the therapeutic benefits of yoga and meditation through free and low-cost classes and workshops. In 2012, I started The Geronimo Project, an online platform celebrating people who have taken career leaps and want to share their stories to inspire others. My career has involved working on the Hill for a Congressman, managing Broadway shows and national tours, fundraising for nonprofits, and innovation work at several large Fortune 500 companies. In every experience, I have used my sense of and respect for elegant design to develop meaningful products, services, and events. A recovering multi-tasker, I am a proud alum of UPenn (BA) and the Darden School at UVA (MBA). When not in front of my Mac, I’m on my yoga mat, walking my dog, traveling with a purpose, or practicing the high-art of people watching.
