Scala is one of the most exiting new languages on the Java virtual machine (JVM) merging ideas from functional programming with object oriented programming providing a very powerful alternative to Java while allowing easy access to the multitude of free and commercial libraries available for Java. Scala also gracefully manages to achieve the conciseness of dynamic languages while actually being a statically typed language with all the developer safety nets that provides.
This talk will introduce developers with little or no previous experience of Scala to the language features through concrete code examples, covering both object oriented and functional aspects of the language. It will also contain some comparisons between Java and Scala code to highlight the expressiveness of Scala and the Scala SDK API:s.
