gen_fsm - An erlang behavior that gives you magic powers

A session at Topconf Tallinn 2012

Thursday 1st November, 2012

2:00pm to 2:45pm (TMT)

gen_fsm is a finite state machine behavior in Erlang which is overlooked at best, ignored at worst, and virtually always dismissed. This is tragic since FSMs are not just about Door Locks (the most commonly used example). To the contrary, this behavior is invaluable in clearly defining communication protocols - ranging from low-level web-services through complex telephony application to reliable interactions between loosely-coupled systems. Join me as I take you through a crash-course in gen_fsm wizardry and hopefully leaving you with a better appreciation of FSMs in the process.
