HTML5 and accessibility

A session at Canberra Accessibility Week

This one day course will inform and instruct you on making best use of HTML5 and guide you on how, why and whether you should be using it on your website NOW!

The day will start with a short introduction to accessibility basics targeted at developers with the rest of the day devoted to HTML5 covering topics such as: What is HTML5 – A brief history; the WHATWG specification and the W3C HTML5 working group. The HTML5 overall principles will be discussed:

  • Compatibility
  • Utility
  • Interoperability
  • Universal Access

And we will be answering questions such as:

  • Can I use HTML5 now?
  • What are the benefits of HTML5?
  • What are the downsides?

Some of the changes and new elements that make up HTML5 will be considered together with new semantic elements, new structural elements, new form elements, attributes and input types.
