Sakai CLE Implementation Bootcamp

A session at Open Apereo 2013 Conference (Jasig & Sakai)

This half-day seminar will focus on installing and integrating with Sakai CLE for system administrators, developers, and technical support staff. This will be an introduction to Sakai CLE and will cover the following topics:

  • What is Sakai CLE
  • Brief history of Sakai CLE
  • Installation gotchas and tips
  • Basics of branding
  • System configuration
  • Sakai admin tools and basics of site setup and management
  • Authentication and user lookup
  • Installing contributed tools and plugins
  • Integrating with other systems (Basic LTI, SOAP Webservices, REST)
  • Managing local code changes and customizations
  • Basics of Sakai development (code structure and conventions)

Participants will be exposed to everything they will need to basically install, customize, and support a Sakai CLE installation at their institution.

Aaron Zeckoski

Software Architect

Aaron Zeckoski is a software architect/engineer and open source software developer primarily specializing in e-learning web applications. He is internationally recognized for his expertise in the Sakai open source collaborative learning environment. His experience includes work in university teams, commercial teams, and as an independent consultant. An experienced systems architect, Aaron has demonstrated his programming expertise in all aspects of web application development; he is a major contributor to projects such as the Sakai CLE/OAE, DSpace repository, and Opencast Matterhorn. He is also experienced and interested in technical documentation, development of tools for programmers, and developer training. He is a member of open source developer communities like Sakai, Moodle, Opencast, and DSpace. Aaron is an active member of the Sakai CLE Team and Sakai 2 Technical Coordination Committee (TCC).

Robert Long

Software Developer

Robert Long is a Java Engineer at Unicon, Inc. the leading independent provider of open source training, consulting, and support in higher education. He focuses mainly on the Sakai CLE platform, along with other open source projects. Prior to his work at Unicon, Inc., he was the Lead Java Developer at Saginaw Valley State University, where he was project manager, system administrator, database designer, UX/UI developer, and Java developer for all of the open source projects implemented at the university, mainly Sakai.
