Order up! Cooking new dishes with Sakai

A session at Open Apereo 2013 Conference (Jasig & Sakai)

Thursday 6th June, 2013

8:45am to 9:30am (PST)

At Providence College we "slice and dice data" from our Banner Student Information System to prepare "dishes" like you've never seen! We built a middleware server between Banner and Sakai -- kind of a "sous chef" -- to make not only course sites, but also sites for student advising, class elections, academic majors, and placement/orientation of incoming students. The operation of the middleware server will be discussed, as well as the sites it creates. The technical-minded can rethink how SIS data should flow, while academics and administrators may find new uses for Sakai beyond course sites (using SIS data). Learn our "recipe for success" and hopefully try something new with Sakai!

Faculty Support & Int. Spec.

From the TI 99/4A to the latest iPhone, Adam Hauerwas has worked with many computer systems. For more than ten years he has worked at Providence College managing their public Windows lab computers and Learning Management Systems (ANGEL and Sakai), and thinks that most problems can be solved with a batch script. When he's not playing with computers he plays Words With Friends, he's a big fan of "Iron Chef" and "Chopped," and he enjoys cooking with his wife and two sons.
