Omega is described by Wired as "a mind-boggling new system that will orchestrate each and every computing task that runs across Google's worldwide network of data centers, perhaps the largest single operation on the net."
John Wilkes is one of the architects of Omega. In this talk, he will present an overview of Omega and the broader cluster-management systems at Google. The focus will be on the exciting challenges that Google is facing along the way, driven by the scale at which it operates, an acute awareness of failures, and the drive to provide ever-better service-levels while curbing complexity. He says: "We certainly don't have all the answers, but we do have some pretty impressive systems!"
