Brighton People's Assembly Against Austerity

Standing together to defend the welfare state and protect public services

30 May 2013 from 6pm to 10pm

Currently in read only mode, sorry about that, please try again in a few hours.

Join us to have your say and hear contributions from Owen Jones (author of 'Chavs: The Demonisation of the Working Class'), Caroline Lucas (Green MP for Brighton Pavilion), Mark Steel (writer and comedian), Hilary Wainwright (Editor, 'Red Pepper'), Romayne Phoenix, (National Chair, Coalition of Resistance) Andy Richards (Brighton and Hove Unison), Brighton and Hove Labour (Invited), Clive Bryant (PCS NEC) and representatives from University of Sussex Occupy, Brighton Benefits Campaign, Brighton Save our NHS, Brighton and Hove Women Against the Cuts.

The aim of the assembly is to have a participative event. After 5 minute contributions from speakers, the rally will be open to all to contribute. We will also have themed workshops on topics as varied as privatisation and internationalism. There also will be political and cultural exhibits in and outside the Brighthelm Centre.

The thrust of the local initiative will be to help establish permanent, friendly and effective links between all in Brighton and Hove who are opposed to the unprecedented cuts to public services as well as a nation wide series of events prior to the London People's Assembly on June 22nd.

Trade unions, students and all those protecting local services must stand together to defend the welfare state and public services. The People's Assembly seeks to bring together everyone campaigning against cuts and privatisation in a mass movement broad enough and powerful enough to launch co-ordinated action by trade unions, students, and all others opposing cuts and privatisation, linking to similar mobilisations across Europe. Join us on May 30th!
