Mental Modelling for Content Work

A session at Confab London 2013

Monday 25th March, 2013

12:10pm to 12:30pm (GMT)

We typically use mental models when we’re starting to brainstorm a design, but why stop there? We can also use them to inform story mapping, content planning, and long-term governance of digital systems over time. Daniel will share examples of real questions, actual answers, and a starter template for conducting contextual inquiry sessions. His talk will present an alternative (or extension) to the traditional mental model by focusing on different aspects of the digital experience.

  • Learn how to add content-specific inquiries to the information gathering process used to inform traditional mental models.
  • Understand how to identify patterns from contextual inquiry exercises.
  • Explore how mental models can help populate content and drive a content strategy that evolves with users.
