Marcelo Claure is President, Chairman & CEO of Brightstar Corporation, the world’s largest specialized wireless distributor and a leading provider of services to the wireless industry. Since its founding in 1997, Marcelo has grown Brightstar from a small Miami-based distributor into a multi-billion dollar business, producing $6.3 billion in net revenue for the year ended 2012.
Brightstar has a local presence in more than 40 countries on six continents, delivering over 100 innovative services to more than 80,000 points of sale. As a result of its success, Forbes Magazine has repeatedly recognized Brightstar as one of the largest privately held companies in the U.S., listing it in 58th place in 2012. Brightstar has also been recognized as the largest Hispanic-owned business in the United States in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2012.
Personally, Marcelo has received international recognition for his entrepreneurial skills and innovative spirit. He has received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award and has also been named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum, among other honors.
Marcelo holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Finance and an honorary Doctorate of Commercial Science from Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts. Marcelo is Vice Chairman of Barcelona’s Mobile World Capital Advisory Board. Similarly, he was appointed by Governor Charlie Crist to serve on Florida International University’s Board of Trustees. Marcelo also serves on the Advisory Board of Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government’s Latino Leadership Initiative and on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of CTIA-The Wireless Association. A native of La Paz, Bolivia, Marcelo lives in Miami with his wife, Jordan, and has four children.
