Sharing some of the challenges and opportunities, successes and failures of working with data.
Originally trained in graphic design, Paul has 15 years experience working in digital. In 1999 he founded a design studio that gained a reputation for its user-centred approach to large scale digital projects, working with a broad range of clients such as AstraZeneca, BP and the National Trust. In 2004 he joined forces with like-minded folk and co-founded Applied Works, a digital creative agency with a focus on communicating complex subjects through data driven UI. Paul's role covers all aspects of Applied Works' offer, including business development, client strategy, visual design and user experience. Recent work has included a series of award winning interactive graphics for The Times’ iPad edition; brand, website and live expedition map for polar explorer Ben Saunders; and, Power the Games Live, a real-time dashboard for EDF, to track energy usage at London 2012 Olympic venues.
