You’ve heard of the Caldecott and Newbery Awards. But what about the Hans Christian Andersen Award? Did you know that there is a children’s literature award given at the international level to both an author and illustrator? Unfortunately only around 5% of the books for children published in the USA are originally from other countries. Highlighting the Andersen Award winners and other outstanding international literature gives kids the chance to encounter the most exciting books from around the world, exposing them to styles, ideas, and cultures that might enrich their lives and broaden their minds. Ernie Bond, who served as the US jurist for the past two Andersen Awards, will introduce these books and explore the value they could add to your library.
