GitHub has long focused on ‘optimizing for happiness’ for its employees. The company has an unparalleled low turnover rate as a result. But how to continue this as GitHub grows larger is not easy. I’ll talk about how we’re avoiding the generic and ultimately empty ‘bread and circuses’ HR approach to happiness, and how our flat hierarchy helps make this possible.
