Collecting community: National Services Te Paerangi digital initiatives

A session at NDF2013

  • Ashley E Remer
  • Tamara Patten

Tuesday 26th November, 2013

1:30pm to 1:55pm (NZMT)

Providing practical and strategic assistance to museums is the core business of National Services Te Paerangi (NSTP). Our first digital initiative, NZMuseums (nzmuseums.co.nz), gave museums all over NZ access for even the smallest collection to be displayed online. In an effort to promote collaboration and open data across the sector, NSTP has taken a further step to help grow online communities.

This presentation will look at NSTP’s digital engagement and how it has evolved from providing a place for those without the funds for a website to have a virtual presence to enabling the creation of online exhibition and community projects that are only limited by what people are willing to do. Specifically we will look at the successes and challenges of NZMuseums, Kiwi Chicks: New Zealand Girl History/Ngā Kōhine Kiwi: He Hītori Taitamāhine o Aotearoa and our newest project on WWI.
