4:00pm to 4:10pm
This project is fundamentally about preserving the named flats of Dunedin and investigating the reasons why students name their homes. What started as a collection of photos of signs has morphed into a leviathan of a project spanning analogue and digital realms: photographs, items from scattered collections, random discoveries, personal stories, ephemera, and weird connections mapped and plotted on the streetscape of Dunedin. This talk will describe some of my findings about the flats, and connections I’ve made between them and the wider cultural context in which this practice resides.
