Around Open Source ecosystem there are several entity (company, foundation, developer, etc.) profiles depending on their strategic relationship with the communities. There are the external ones, willing to enter on a community or to know more about it with different options on mind like creating and managing a community or being part of a community, like a member, contributor, etc. or even for using the software produced by the community. On the other hand, there are companies or entities that are already part of a community, because it is related with their core business, with two possible roles, as managers or key drivers for the community or as a participants, like any other member or contributor To take “smart” strategic decisions entities need to know about the communities and their complexity first, and getting that information is quite hard. Here is where "metrics" enter in the story, as an important part to provide answers for the questions any entity could have on the decision making process, and that’s the reason we call them “smart metrics”. “Metrics” are quite useful for different management profiles like community managers and engineering managers and it would be shown during the Open World Forum.
