Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program Training: Know Your Local Farmers

A session at Priester National Health Extension Conference

Wednesday 17th April, 2013

10:50am to 11:50am (PST)

This session will introduce ways by which extension agents can establish a new farmers' market or expand an existing one. The Arizona Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) offers free training classes to local gardeners and small farmers.

In this project, a University of Arizona extern was hired for summer 2012 and set 4 goals:

1) Identify the interested local growers
2) Conduct FMNP training and institute an FMNP Approved Grower program with the AZ Department of Health Services
3) Promote home gardening to SNAP participants
4) Create the infrastructure for expansion of farmers' markets.
