Strong Women Across America: Extension Changes One Life at a Time

A session at Priester National Health Extension Conference

Wednesday 17th April, 2013

1:15pm to 2:15pm (PST)

Tufts University teamed up with Extension colleagues from Alaska, Montana, Colorado, Kansas, Arkansas, Missouri, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, to embark on a national movement to improve nutrition and physical activity. The effort aimed to mobilize a grass roots social network movement to improve the food and physical activity environment within communities across the country. Each community utilized StrongWomen Ambassadors and local leaders to establish #ChangeClubs- groups of women who came together to target action steps to change the food and physical activity environment in their own communities. As #ChangeClubs were empowered, positive results at the individual, group, environmental and policy level occurred.

Linda Tannehill, University of Alaska
Angela Flicknger, University of Wisconsin
Jodi Drake, Kansas State Research and Extension
Dawn Olson, Penn State Extension
