SotM by boat: mapping the canals and waterways

A session at State of the Map 2013

  • Paul Sladen

Sunday 8th September, 2013

10:10am to 10:15am (GMT)

Paul Sladen
Birmingham famously has more canals than Venice, so there is really only one way to arrive. The canals in Britain were constructed early, but the majority were not subsequently enlarged and remain hand-operated and limited to vessels two metres wide and 20 metres long. We skim through some of the useful features to look out for, recognise and tag when surveying near to waterways. See how many you can spot around the centre of Birmingham!
