Proposal for a Mobile App Prize

A session at State of the Map 2013

Sunday 8th September, 2013

4:10pm to 4:20pm (GMT)

Harry Wood
Mobile apps are increasingly important for OpenStreetMap. They are a unique and exciting avenue of map data innovation, but we can also view iPhone and Android apps more crudely as just the latest new channel where organisations are expected to have a "brand presence". It's another area where (frustratingly) casual visitors to OpenStreetMap expect to see us competing. At the moment we're not really playing this game. We have a broad ecosystem of app developers, but our long list of apps on the wiki is baffling and unsatisfying for this type of casual app-seeking visitor. In this talk Harry will present his idea for an "App of the year" award, to answer the unanswerable question "Which app is best?"
