Sources in the Social Media Age

A session at SXSW Interactive 2013

Saturday 9th March, 2013

9:30am to 10:30am (CST)

As social media destroys previous conceptions of reporters, their sources and the "audience," journalism is being re-defined by the minute. It's also letting people on all sides of the equation get away with things they couldn't have before. For example, sources can demand to review the quotes from their interview with the reporter, and the reporter is more willing to do so than ever, knowing that the source could just as easily take to Facebook or Twitter with the information. Sponsored by the Knight Foundation.

Edmund Lee

media reporter, Bloomberg News

Writer. Once talked my way in to a locked down Columbia University campus for a story, and a gangster once bought me lunch, came clean. Now at Bloomberg/ Businessweek, covering media, namely News Corp., Viacom, Time Warner, New York Times Co., Washington Post Co., and others (here, my media feed). Used to fiddle at Ad Age, covering all things digital. Also written for the Village Voice, the New York Times, W Magazine, Portfolio, Vibe, and elsewhere. Wrote a movie once that got made and showed at Tribeca. Screenwriting is a tease; not for the faint. Below, some of my words.
