  • OMMA: Is Mobile Really a Branding Vehicle?

by Tim Reis, Dennis Maloney, Rich Lesperance and Tim Kraus

We live in a constantly connected world, where people move seamlessly between multiple devices, and the definition of mobile is evolving beyond a set of devices. This always-on lifestyle provides an additional set of signals about user context and intent that are game-changing for marketers. Beyond "Hyperlocal" or "SoLoMo", it is really about capturing the right context and understanding what people want and need to do at different touchpoints. Google's Tim Reis, will explore how mobile can be rethought within wholly new and rich contexts, and how marketers can leverage these to make meaningful connections with their customers.

  • OMMA: The Next Big Thing IS Not a Gadget

by Mike Proulx, Rob Griffin, Thom Kennon and Tina Unterlaender

Take your eyes off the bright shiny CE objects for a second and you will see that mobility is about changing consumer behaviors, not the technology. At every stage, from mobile shopping to at-home use to tweeting snarky comments about TV shows in the living room, users have been defining these platforms while marketers and media companies scramble to catch up. Our panel of some of the leading thinkers in media and marketing will follow a new generation of screen-agnostic consumer who is moving across media, using smartphones at home as much as they do “on the go”, turning the tablet into a virtual cash register and moving much of their social networking off of the Web. The consumer is “the next big thing” but where do they go next?

Stop by the lawn outside the Long Center (701 W. Riverside Drive) March 8-10 to see Northrop Grumman's tennis-court-sized, four-story-high, full-scale model of the Webb Telescope. Learn about the vision behind Webb and the challenges of its construction in this immersive experience that showcases the science, images and technologies changing our understanding of the universe.

Free to the public, this exhibit features Microsoft's interactive World Wide Telescope and activities with NASA that demonstrate how Webb will inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers to push the boundaries of science and technology. Delve in for an in-depth look at the perplexing questions that this incredible telescope is designed to answer, such as: How did the universe form? Is our solar system unique? Are we alone in the cosmos?

  • OMMA: What Marketers Should Ask Themselves About Social

    by Jeffrey Dachis

Brand marketers are currently in the midst of dealing with the implications of the most revolutionary shift in the history of communication. Social media has upended the entire landscape, shifting the balance of power from stakeholders in mass communications (brand marketers, advertisers) to a mass of communicators (anyone with a social media footprint). This shift has led to a number of hugely important questions. How will brand marketers measure and justify these new currencies of engagement? Are a tweet and a “Like” valued the same? Should they be? What will it take to engage consumers at scale in the age of social? How will social compare to the banner ad, which our keynote speaker, Jeff Dachis, helped pioneer twenty years ago? In this session at OMMA Social at SXSW, Dachis will tackle these topics and also address the role social will play in driving pre-purchase intent in the years to come.
