The University of Leicester started a project in 2010 to procure a new Enterprise Backup System with the goal of consolidating 3 different systems in IT Services that were end of life. The solution had to be able to scale to 300TB within 3 years to support then new Research File Service and then up to 1PB within 5 years. The solution is based on CommVault 9 with a substantial quantity of disk as the backup target. The presentation will explore the particular challenges of backing up an NAS appliance and the impact of deduplication on stored data.
