Building Your Brand on Social Media

A session at Women In Business

  • Kelly Drennan

Thursday 18th April, 2013

10:45am to 11:45am

Social media is everywhere – and there is no escaping it! Learn how to best leverage it for your personal brand and ultimately help you achieve your career aspirations.

Personal branding is the process by which we market ourselves to others. As a brand, we can leverage the same strategies that make celebrities or corporate brands appeal to others.

Why Personal Branding?

•Now more than ever, employers are using social media to not only screen applicants, but hunt for potential candidates

•Customer complaints and opinions are online and viewable through a simple search, on either Google or through social networks. There is no hiding anymore and transparency and authenticity are the only means to survive and thrive in this new digital kingdom.

•Social media tools have leveled the playing ground and have enabled us to reach incredible heights, at the cost of our time.

Through this workshop you will hear how Kelly Drennan has used social media to personally build her brand and that of her organization, Fashion Takes Action. You will also learn how to not only discover your brand, but how to create your personal brand and begin to think about how you want to position yourself for success!

Kelly Drennan

Founding Executive Director, Fashion Takes Action

Kelly Drennan is a social entrepreneur devoted to making change within the fashion industry - known for its many negative social and environmental impacts including labour, energy, waste, water, and the use of toxic chemicals.

Kelly brings her many years of experience in PR and event planning to Fashion Takes Action, providing members with communications and sales support. While her role is to promote awareness of the FTA brand, its members and the greater sustainable fashion movement, Kelly also works hard to bridge the gap between sustainable fashion brands and the consumer. She achieves this through her solid social media networks, consumer events, public speaking engagements, television segments, newspaper and magazine articles, and blog features.

With nearly 12,000 followers on twitter, Kelly is a social media maven, ranked in the "top 75 environmentalists to follow on twitter" by Mashable, and winner of the 2011 Treehugger Best in Green Award.
