Don’t Test With The Real Thing: Test Doubles for Effective Unit Testing

A session at Boise Code Camp 2014

Session Level: 200

Just as you wouldn’t test crashing a car with a real person, why would you test your application with a real database (or message queue or file system or email sender or…)? Learn about how test doubles can allow your unit test suite to expand to cover more of your application (and cover it more effectively). Code will be in C# using Moq and Javascript using Sinon but the concepts will apply to test doubles in most platforms.
