Solving identity management problems is a challenge. To be efficient you need simple and powerful tools that allow you to accomplish your task. Historically open source projects were good in providing basic tools that focus on performing an individual task well. But for complex workflows you need to have multiple tools that can work together effectively. This level of integration was non existent up until recently.
The talk will give an overview of the currently available identity management technologies, identify their deficiencies and introduce FreeIPA and SSSD as the first fully functional open source centralized authentication and identity management solution comparable to Active Directory in its capabilities but focusing primarily on the identity management needs of Linux and UNIX client systems.
