Animating in Your Browser With CSS3 and HTML5

A session at Future of Web Design

Monday 7th April, 2014

9:00am to 5:00pm (GMT)

To build the user interfaces of the future, today’s front end developers need to master animation - in theory and in code. Join award-winning cartoonist and CSS nerd Rachel Nabors for an in-browser cartooning session. Learn how to use CSS3 animations, JavaScript event listeners, and HTML5 audio sprites to build fun animations that pull users in. Rediscover the secrets animation studios employ to complete the "illusion of life." Walk away with the skills to implement your wildest dreams! This workshop is best suited to people who use CSS and HTML on a daily basis (you should understand the box model) and have some familiarity with JavaScript (you should know what an event listener is).

What You'll Learn:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of CSS animations and transitions
  • JavaScript event listeners for CSS animations and transitions
  • HTML5 audio and spriting techniques
  • Using spriting and cutouts to reduce resources in complex animations
  • Timing with CSS delays and JavaScript
  • Parallax: how-to and gotchas of implementation
  • Improving performance via Chrome Dev Tools
  • Using the Sass Animation Studio extension to take the pain out of steps() animation math
