Design thinking and journalism: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and embraced human centered design.

A session at Hacks/Hackers BA Media Party 2014

Thursday 28th August, 2014

4:15pm to 7:00pm (CMT)

Having a clear notion of the potential of using Design Thinking and its perfect combination with reporting."Strong journalism requires deep reporting – and human-centered design, with its focus on detecting the needs of end users, provides tools for doing just that. The core element of Design Thinking – empathy – stands at the center or more than just penetrating reporting. It’s a vital part of any engagement strategy for media products of any kind. Human-centered design thinking as pioneered at Stanford allows us to draw a blueprint for how to reach readers in a way that compels them to engage. We draw this blueprint by first understanding the choices each person makes - and the reasons behind those choices - as well as by observing the behaviors that person engages in. These observations will produce insights that will lead news organizations to design better ways to reach their audiences in ways that leave them ready and eager to act or engage.

Level: Middle
Target: Hacks/ Desarrolladores y tecnólogos, Hackers/ Periodistas y editores, Designers/ Diseñadores, Activists/ Activistas, Entrepreneurs/ Emprendedores, profesores.

Skills: Just bring your brain and leave your prejudices at the door.
