  • Getting the Most Out of Your Content in SharePoint with Enterprise Search - 1 of 2

    by Agnes Molnar

SharePoint has always had a big emphasis on Content Management. This focus has been become stronger version by version, as has the focus on Enterprise Search. We've had more and more options to organise and classify content through sites, lists, libraries and folders, as well as managed metadata and other properties.

These tools help build a SharePoint Information Architecture and are the foundation for improving document search within SharePoint. But as that architecture gets more complex, users can leverage Enterprise Search features to improve document findability and to make the search button more powerful than ever.

In this session, Agnes will demonstrate how Search Services really work and how to create the most effective Search Solutions within SharePoint. Attendees will learn how to build a bridge across content silos and provide familiar, ergonomic and easy user experience for content stored in SharePoint.

  • Taming the Wild Wild West: Creating a Practical and Consumable Governance Plan - 1 of 2

    by Susan Hanley

A SharePoint solution without a Governance Plan is like a day without sunshine. It's sad, it's depressing, and you often have to change your plans and expectations, which leaves a lot of people dissatisfied! A good Governance Plan is "necessary but not sufficient" to ensure solution success. You still have to ensure that the Governance Plan is applied, which means your plan needs to be realistic, practical, and "consumable."

In this example-filled workshop, we will walk through a detailed, practical approach to create your SharePoint Governance Plan. We will talk about structuring the conversations to explore the questions that you'll need to answer to make sure that your governance plan aligns with your business goals – and to make sure that your investment is just enough but not too much. We'll use interactive exercises to work through some key governance-related challenges. And, we'll also tour a live "consumable" governance plan that you can adapt for your organization with only a few hours effort.

You will take away specific ideas that you can apply to create a sustainable governance plan for your SharePoint solution. In addition, you will take away re-usable templates and outlines that you can immediately apply and specific recommendations to ensure that you don't just get a governance plan, but that you have an approach to ensure that your SharePoint solution drives sustainable business success.

  • The Digital Workplace Journey: Obstacles and how to Overcome Them

    by Jane McConnell

The digital workplace is a new mindset. It is holistic, forcing the organization, functions and people to think outside their own silos. It is space and time independent letting many people work when and where it is the most appropriate. It is an enabler, empowering people to express themselves and to take initiatives they could not previously do so easily. For some organizations, it has become a strategic asset reported at the highest levels of management.

These fundamental changes impact management, communication, HR, IT, customer service teams, and on and on. There are many obstacles to overcome before an organization can achieve an effective digital workplace.

This workshop will start with a short presentation on "Obstacles and Approaches" based on input from the 2014 Digital Workplace survey. We will then identify the obstacles that concern the workshop participants, and work though them collectively, sharing ideas and experiences We will draw guidelines and recommendations at the end of the workshop for your reference when you are back in your own digital workplace after the conference!
