HTML5 App - Combine the best of both worlds - and make the world a better place

A session at London Web Standards HTML5

Monday 21st July, 2014

8:00pm to 8:45pm (GMT)

The world around us is full of colours and shades. Imagine to describe your current colour perception in just 12secs to a blind person!

As a web developer you probably want to automate such a complicated and demanding task in just a few lines of code and run it in a device you always have on you anyway, like your mobile phone, just in case a blind chap shows up, e.g. at #WebStandards.

The ingredients of our magic eye are quickly found:

mobile phone: Access to a built-in voice to read all the colours and shades you are pointing at.
HTML5: JavaScript which access a <canvas of the scenery and some html text to describe them every 12 seconds.
App context: access to the camera to fill up the canvas with the outer world impression, we couldn't do with just html5 on our mobile phone.
Let's go on the ride with these ingredients and make the impossible happen in 25min: Make the world a little bit more accessible with our new magic html5 eye app.

I'll finish with some new ideas for the audience to follow this simple example which they can create a hacking weekend and feel proud on the work they achieved.
