Illumina will share best practices for creating an authoring system of highly reusable content that is scalable for future growth. Many Flare users manage deliverables in separate projects, with each author responsible for their own naming conventions, folder structure, variables, and conditions. This enables writers to start quickly, but limits reuse and makes it difficult to reassign projects in case of emergencies or changing needs. At Illumina, we created a single project containing all deliverables and shared by all authors. We have an extensible folder structure and naming convention, as well as specific guidelines for variables and conditions. This architecture lets us control the amount of reuse we get from our content and positions us for future growth and development opportunities. The goal of this session is to share the methodology and principles behind our system architecture and demonstrate the advantages of planning and designing your system before moving into Flare.
